Transparency And Empathy
One of my most fervent convictions is the timeliness of feedback. It's crucial to convey your thoughts promptly and directly when someone's performance is subpar.
This conversation should be respectful and solution-oriented, offering ways for improvement. Without such feedback, the person may continue down a misguided path, unwittingly cementing bad habits and setting themselves up for failure.
The communication needs to strike a delicate balance between absolute honesty and empathetic understanding. A book I wholeheartedly endorse for everyone is Kim Scott’s 'Radical Candor'. It concisely encapsulates this philosophy. The majority of the teachings resonated deeply with my own beliefs.
Not withholding feedback is not just about being honest, but also about showing care for the person's growth and development.
